The Ugly Woman who was Really Beautiful

December 5th, 2009

I remember laying in my bed wishing for the noise to go away, waiting for the young women to leave the feet of my bed, waiting for my eyes to get so heavy that I would be able to close them without the fear of waking up till the next morning.

The morning sun was driving through my blinds, I gave a small yawn and got out of bed and made my way down stairs, for some reason I always felt comfortable down stairs, mom was sitting on the couch watching TV and I made my way to the kitchen and grabbed a pop tart and began eating it in the living room. Mom, I said staring into the TV, what sweetie she said, am I gonna have to sleep alone tonight?

There was a long pause than she took a deep breath. Autumn, she said, you can’t sleep with me forever. I know, I said, It’s just I feel comfortable around you. I know I’ll sleep on the floor. Okay, my mom said in a happy way.

I spent the day playing with my brother in the yard, at the pool, at the park, at home, and at my friends house. Every thing was good until I went to sleep in my moms room. I woke to a noise, it was a horrible noise. It was a noise of a snuffle cough and a groan. Mom, I called, Mommy, I called again no answer. Then I realized I was in my own bed. My mom must of put me in here. The noise was closer, the groan was horrible. It sounded like a bear that had a cold, then I saw it, the young woman at the feet of my bed. Her face was horrible, it was twisted, deep scars dug deep in her face and her nose was more like a lump. Her head was a jelly bean shape, her eyes deep and dark.

Leave me alone. Go away, I screamed. She grunted and disappeared. I took a deep breath and fell asleep. I woke in the night but not to find the ugly woman but instead to find a beautiful one. Her face frail looking, her eyes shimmered, her lips plump and ripe, her hair lay on her shoulders, but then she turned into the ugly woman. I hid under the covers and peeked out and she was beautiful again then turned ugly. The same happened for about five times then I peeked out again and said, Its okay I’m not scared any more, and then she turned more beautiful. She smiled and walked through the wall.

The next morning I ran into my moms room. I hopped on her bed, mommy I slept in my room all by my self. She smiled good she said, then I left her room and returned to my room to see the woman again. She was so beautiful. Hi, I said while I jumped on my bed. She smiled at me again. What happened, I said. She spoke but I heard nothing I just knew then that she was in a terrible fight with her husband, he carved her face with a knife. She survived but than died from her ugliness. I felt so bad. I told her to go back to being ugly and she turned back to her normal ugly face. I walked up to her and placed a kiss on her cheek and right then my room filled with light and she disappeared. My room smelled like roses, I knew that she was gone for good.

I still see ghosts today but I was never more touched by any of them than the one I saw in Valley city. I loved her that day more than any one else. My name is Autumn Haugen and I am 12 years old.
