The Jerome Grand Hotel was constructed in 1926, starting out as the United Verde Hospital, opening January, 1927. In 1930, it was written up as the most modern and well equipped hospital in Arizona and possible the Western States.

The Hospital was closed in 1950 as the mine operation was being phased out. The building stood unused for the next 44 years until the rehabilitation plans started in 1994. It is still open today as a hotel.

Hauntings

There are three main ghosts reported to be at the hotel, The first is that of a women in white, she can be seen roaming the corridors late at night, rumor has it that she was a woman who died during child birth when the building was a hospital, and that she forever search’s for the grave of her child, who also died at the same time.

The second most common ghost tale is that of seeing a nurse carrying a clipboard, she is said to walk the rooms of the 3rd floor bending over bed’s that no longer exist and checking on patients who have long since died.

The 3rd and most commonly experienced ghost is that of a Claude Harvey, who was a man killed in an elevator incident in 1935. It is said he can be seen roaming the whole of the hotel and its basement, some speculate that he was murdered.

Other paranormal experiences at the hotel include the sounds of coughing and wheezing coming from one of the rooms, ghostly lights in unoccupied guest rooms, and the smell’s of cigar and tobacco smoke coming from areas that are non-smoking and unoccupied.

History

Oliver house was built in 1909 by Edith Ann Oliver, the wife of a mining tycoon. It was originally built as a planning center and boarding house for the Arizona mining company until it was purchased in 1986 by a Dennis Schranz who was warned at the buying meeting that the place was haunted, at the time he didn’t believe in ghosts and went through with the sale. He does now however after living in and experiencing the house’s “other worldly” residents. The building is still open to this day as a bed and breakfast.

Hauntings

Oliver house has had a violent history, being in a “wild west” area, several people have died within the house. One of the first recorded murders was that of a Nat Anderson, who was shot at the top of the second story staircase on the 22nd of February, 1920, his killer was never caught and it remains an unsolved murder case.

There is a certain room in the house which was used by Dennis Schranz the first night he spent there alone, he claims to have heard footsteps walking down the hallway and straight into his room and up to his bed, even though the door was locked, could this be the ghost of Nat Anderson?

One of the most common experiences within the building is said to be in the grandma room, were an old lady passed away, guests have reported seeing the apparition of an old lady standing over them while their in bed. Other often reported happenings are to hear the sound of running water late at night through pipes that no longer exist, as well as the feeling of being watched and footsteps.

Orbs have been seen on occasion in the attic on both still and infra-red film. It appears that from guest statements and past happening’s that the second floor is by far the most haunted.

Not much is known of the history of Hudson house, it is a small run down house in a very remote location of Ashland, Alabama. It is thought the house was built in the early 1900′s, but accurate records are difficult to come by.

Hauntings

The house is said to be haunted by many ghosts, an actual number of individual ghosts is unknown, but tales include that of hearing voices and footsteps and what has been identified as the sound of panting dogs in all areas of the house, as well as reports of a ghostly, dark figure who walks along the roof.

Also another common tale is the front door constantly opening and closing on its own, as if it were scrubbing the floor. An old occupant of the house claims to have heard the door moving on its own many times, but when he checked, it was always locked.

It is also said that if you stand in front of the house, you can experience what feels like someone tapping you on the shoulder.

Little can be found about the history of Hells Gate, after all it is just a bridge, sorry that I have to provide you with less information than I would like to but as I said, it’s a bridge.

Hauntings

Reports of paranormal activity at the bridge seems to be mostly folklore. There have been two confirmed deaths at this location, which were of a couple who died in an accident. The most popular local tale tells that if you stop on the bridge and look behind you, the road appears to look like the fiery gates of hell.

Another tale includes that if you stop your car on the bridge and get out for a few minutes, then there will be a wet patch on the seat, thought to be from the ghost of a member of the couple who died in the accident.

The last most common story of the bridge includes that if you walk up the road from the bridge towards the nearby mansion, then you will be chased by a ghostly car that wont disappear until you reach the bridge again, this to me sounds a little hard to believe. However, the tale about the road appearing to look like the gates of hell has been reported by many people, as has the ghost car. I leave it up to you, the reader to make of these stories what you will.

The St James Hotel was built in 1837 and is the only antebellum riverfront hotel that is still left in Selma. It was know as the Brantly Hotel for its first 50 years and was saved from being burnt down during the American civil war by the union army.

During its past, some of its owners rented out rooms long term, which wasn’t uncommon at the time, because of this it is said to of been the headquarters of the infamous Frank and Jesse James. In 1892, the hotel closed down for over 100 years due to area hardships before re-opening again as a hotel, and it still stands to this day as one.

Hauntings

Many psychics and paranormal investigators have visited the hotel since it’s re-opening and it has been classed as definitely haunted. Its most famous haunting is said to be that of Jesse James himself, who appears in various rooms around the hotel as well as at one of the tables to the left of the bar.

Another commonly seen apparition is of a women who has been named as Lucinda, she is thought to be possibly that of Jesse James girlfriend, She appears as a tall dark-haired women dressed in an early 1800′s gown.

Another popular paranormal event at the St James hotel is the sound of a barking dog, which can be heard quite frequently in the courtyard, many guests have complained about the barking, but an actual dog can never be found.

Other reports include seeing various apparitions appear wearing the typical style of dress common with the early 1800′s all over the hotel, especially in the courtyard. As well as objects moving by themselves and various sounds such as footsteps and banging, but the source of these noises can never be identified.

Many people claim to of heard him wandering around in the room, only to disappear when someone checks to see were the noise is coming from.

Other ghostly reports include the feeling of being watched in the basement and a shadowy figure on the 13th floor of Tutwiler Hall, which is said to be the ghost of a girl who committed suicide by lighting herself on fire.

On the main floor there is an exhibit of Dr. Smith’s carriage, various people have reported the sounds of horses and a carriage being pulled within this area. Many other ghostly happenings are common place, such as the sounds of footsteps, being touched whilst looking through materials in the music room, voices, and a report of finding all the desks scattered in one of the class room’s were a boiler exploded many years ago killing several students.

When it was founded in 1847, it was one of the largest structures in Nashville, and was the center of Nashville’s Catholic community. Today, it is a beautiful historic structure which holds much importance for the city of Nashville.

Given its long history, it will come as no surprise that the church is allegedly home to some ghosts. For many years, certain clergyman at the church have told stories about a ghost which roams the church. The ghost was supposedly first seen by a housekeeper during the 1930s. Monsignor John Morgan also had a frightening encounter with the spirit in 1937. He was awakened by a pounding on the door. He fell back asleep, but then heard the knocking again, this time on the headboard of his bed. He jumped out of the bed, but couldn’t find the source.

There are at least three tales which account for the origin of the ghost. One claims that a priest died in during the construction of the church. The second one says the ghost of a former chaplain haunts the church. During the Civil War, a Catholic priest serving as a chaplain for the Confederate Army was shot. He was rushed to the church, but died there. Now he haunts the church, or so the story goes.

The most common story holds that the ghost is the spirit of Bishop Richard Pius Miles, the first bishop of the Diocese of Nashville, who died in 1860. He was buried in the church basement. His remains were discovered in 1969, and since then there has been little or no ghostly activity in the church. Perhaps he is finally at peace.

One of it’s most prominent features is Belmont Mansion, located on the campus. The mansion was built in 1850 and inhabited by Adelicia Acklen, who was noted as being good at manipulating men. As a result, she become one of the most wealthy women in the South. Even after the Civil War, when many in the South found themselves bankrupt, she continued to flourish. The luxerious parties and balls held there became known all over the nation, and became the stuff of legends. When Adelicia died in 1887, the mansion was sold. It became a girl’s school for many years, until Belmont University began there during the 1950s.

Adelicia Acklen remains a controversial figure today, seen by some as heroic and others as simply an opprotunist. Despite her lavish lifestyle, her life certainly had it’s share of pain. She lost several children to diseases, and this hurt her very baddly. Some say this is why her ghost still haunts the mansion today: she is still longing for her children to return. Others say she haunts the place purely for greed: it’s often said “you can’t take it with you,” and when sherealized she couldn’t, her spirit returned to the mansion she loved so much in life. Either way, there are a number of stories of her presence, dating back years.

Many students and facualty claim to have seen the ghostly figure of a antebellum area woman walking the halls of Belmont Mansion at night, or seen her staring out the window. One of the most amazing accounts comes from a woman who claims to have come face to face with Adelicia one night. She says she was passing through a hall, when she rounded a corner and came face to face with a ghost of a woman dressed in a lavish, 1800s style dress. Needless to say, she exited the premise fairly quicky!

In any event, don’t be surprised if you see such a figure in Belmont Mansion late at night. Be afraid, but don’t be surprised.

A certain house on Ninth Street in Nashville was once home to a mysterious poltergeist who caused much disturbance in the home of John Hawkins during the 1960s. These events followed the “classic poltergeist” activities: banging noises, footsteps, and other events. Poltergeist is a German word meaning “noisy spirit” and this one certainly lived up to that name.

The origin of this spirit is unclear. Poltergeists are known to sometimes appear with adolescent girls. Perhaps this had something to do with the Hawkins haunting

If the poltergeist still inhabits the house, it hasn’t made itself available. There haven’t been any reports of activity at the house in several years, so perhaps the spirit has moved on. Or perhaps it still resides there, just waiting to make its presence known again!
